When to replace

If any of these is true, replacement is usually the cheaper long-term call.

A Las Cruces summer is hard on AC equipment. We tell you when repair still pencils out and when it stops.

The unit is 12+ years old

Compressor failure risk climbs sharply past year 12 in desert heat. Replacement parts get harder to source.

The repair is more than 40% of replacement

Our honest test: if the math is close, we show you both options on paper. No pressure either direction.

It uses R-22 refrigerant

R-22 is phased out and recharge cost is now punishing. Newer systems use R-410A or R-454B.

Bills keep climbing every summer

Old SEER ratings versus new (15+ SEER2) on a 14-week Las Cruces cooling season is the biggest energy lever in the home.

Hot rooms, cold rooms, never balanced

Often a sizing or duct problem from a prior install. Manual J + duct redesign fixes most of it.

What's included

Every install we quote.

A

Manual J load calc

Cooling and heating load computed for your specific home, not a square-footage rule of thumb. The whole install depends on getting this right.

B

Brand and model recommendation

Authorized Trane dealer; we also install York, Lennox, Rheem, and Carrier. We pick what fits the home, the budget, and the long-term parts pipeline.

C

Written, fixed-price quote

Equipment, labor, refrigerant, electrical, permits, disposal of the old unit. One number. No surprise line items.

D

Permits and inspection

City and county permits pulled in our name. We meet the inspector. You don't chase paperwork.

E

Warranty registered

Manufacturer warranty registered the same week. We add the extended warranty if it makes sense for your unit.

Frequently asked

AC installation questions, answered.

How do you size an AC for a Las Cruces home?

We run a Manual J load calculation that accounts for elevation (Las Cruces sits around 3,900 ft, which changes air density and unit performance), orientation, window glazing, attic R-value, infiltration, and your specific microclimate (a Mesilla adobe behaves nothing like an east-mesa stucco). The calc drives both unit size and duct sizing. Oversized units short-cycle and fail to dehumidify; undersized units run themselves to death in July.

Which brands do you install?

Authorized Trane dealer; we also install York, Lennox, Rheem, and Carrier. Ductless mini-splits available where they fit. We pick the brand and model based on the home, the budget, the warranty terms, and the long-term parts pipeline we can support, not on whichever spiff is highest that quarter.

How long does an AC install take?

A standard residential changeout (existing AC and air handler replaced with the same configuration) is usually a one-day install. Heat-pump conversions, new ductwork, or first-time installs in a home that never had central air can run 2 to 3 days. We give you a written timeline before we start, and we tell you the night before what time the truck arrives.

Do you do ductless mini-splits?

Yes. Ductless mini-splits are our usual recommendation for adobe homes, additions, casitas, garages converted to living space, and mobile homes where running new ductwork is impractical or destructive. Single-zone or multi-zone, wall-mount or ceiling cassette, we install all of it.

Will you remove the old unit?

Yes. Old condenser, air handler, refrigerant reclaim, and any obsolete ductwork. Disposal and refrigerant recovery are line items we handle. You don't haul anything to the landfill.

Can I get a heat pump instead?

Often, yes, and in Las Cruces it usually pencils. Modern cold-climate heat pumps handle our winter lows fine, and you replace two pieces of equipment (AC + furnace) with one. We'll show you the math on operating cost and rebate eligibility on paper.
